On Monday, Sept. 14, at approximately 8:42 a.m., the Virginia State Police (VSP) responded to a single-vehicle crash on Water View Road in upper Middlesex County near Church View.
According to the VSP preliminary investigation, a 2023 International truck was traveling west on Water View Road towards U.S. Route 17. As the vehicle approached Burchs Mill Road it ran off the right side of Water View Road, struck a road sign and utility pole, rolled over, and struck a tree.
The crash occurred on a straight section of Water View Road about a mile from Route 17 and Big John’s Store near Church View.
The driver, 57-year-old William Norman Ellis Jr. of Hartfield, suffered fatal injuries. His next of kin has been notified.
A crash scene photo supplied by the State Police indicates Ellis was driving a well-drilling truck.
The incident remains under investigation, the VSP said.
