Parts of van, tractor trailer, pickups and some hazmat items block lanes; one driver is airlifted to area hospital
A multi-vehicle crash Friday on the Robert O. Norris Jr. Bridge involving a van, tractor-trailer, two pickup trucks and hazardous materials, closed the span linking Middlesex and Lancaster counties for several hours, reported Virginia State Police (VSP) Public Information Officer Sgt. Jessica B. Shehan.
The preliminary VSP investigation indicated that about 9:30 a.m. on Sept. 4, a 2015 Chevrolet City Express work van was traveling eastbound when it crossed the double yellow centerline and struck a westbound 2013 Peterbilt tractor-trailer. The van then sideswiped a westbound 2024 Ford F-250 pickup truck before overturning onto its driver’s side.
