The Upper Middlesex Volunteer Fire Department (UMVFD) recently received a $3,000 grant from Dominion Energy.

The funds will be used to purchase a “SEEK” thermal imagining camera to replace two 20-year-old cameras, said UMVFD Assistant Chief Patrick Burch. The new SEEK camera has three modes that offer better fire ground decision making by having the survey mode on that allows firefighters to see convection currents allowing them to find the heat of the fire faster, he explained.

Partnership

The grant is a partnership between Dominion Energy and the Virginia State Firefighters Association. It awards up to $3,000 for volunteer departments in Virginia to help fund equipment such as turnout gear, hose, gas meters, thermal imaging cameras, and training. UMVFD has been selected to receive grants twice in the last three years.
