Urbanna Marina Bridge: New span unlikely for this season

The Urbanna Town Council is considering options to replace the bridge leading to the Urbanna Town Marina. During a special called meeting on March 4, a concrete bridge cast-in-place was discussed, because it was the only option that would not require site work. However, the land on either side of the current bridge is unstable.

After the March 4 meeting council member Robbie Wilson contacted Evans Construction of New Kent, a potential engineering consultant who would guide the town through the process and who estimated engineering at around $100,000, which is 10% of the estimate made by WRA engineering.

Wilson said, Evans’ plan proposes buying a pre-fabricated bridge that could be installed after the unstable foundation is improved. “The foundation is the wild card on price,” said Wilson, “because it all depends on the soil…”
