Cost to fix increases, estimates vary

Price estimates to replace the bridge to the Urbanna Town Marina vary greatly from $4.4 million for a total replacement to a “guesstimate” of $300,000 for a temporary concrete bridge.

However, the temporary concrete bridge would be built over the existing bridge and the use of some of the deteriorating foundation of the old bridge, which is estimated to be 50-plus years old. “It’s a risk to the town,” said engineer Jeremy Schulessel at the March 4 special called town council meeting. “There are definitely foundation issues.”
