Council considers temporary span

Building a bridge to the Urbanna Town Marina has been estimated to cost $4.4 million, reported Urbanna Town Administrator Ted Costin.

Although the bridge is just 16 feet long, the areas on both sides of the bridge will need to be improved.

The $4.4 million estimate by WRA was made “using methodology used by VDOT in their construction projects on bridges,” Costin told the board of supervisors.

In comparison, VDOT recently spent $5.5 million to build a new, longer, two-lane bridge on Route 14 at the Mathews-Gloucester county line at the intersection of Route 3/Route 14.

The marina bridge is on the agenda for council’s meeting set for 6 p.m. today, Thursday, Feb. 12, at the Urbanna firehouse …
