A 52-year-old Richmond man was hospitalized in critical condition after a crash on Route 17 near the Middlesex County-Essex County line on July 2, reported the Virginia State Police public information officer, Sgt. Michelle Anaya.
According to Sgt. Anaya, the preliminary investigation revealed that at approximately 11:25 a.m. on Wednesday, July 2, a 2011 Dodge minivan, traveling southbound on Route 17, ran off the left side of the roadway and through the median, before striking an embankment and a culvert. The minivan then rolled over several times before coming to rest in the north bound lanes of Route 17.
The northbound lanes were blocked and VDOT diverted traffic around the crash, which occurred near Route 17 and Canoe House Road.
The driver, Hayder Kareem Abdulwahid Alsubaih, was the sole occupant of the minivan. He was transported in critical condition to Riverside Walter Reed Hospital in Gloucester by the Middlesex County Volunteer Rescue Squad. Senior Trooper A.N. Cavins was the investigating officer.
Responding to the crash was the Upper Middlesex Volunteer Fire Department (UMVFD) in Water View.
