Body-worn cams job’s funds nixed in 3-2 vote

Majority of supervisors oppose hiring $80,725
plus benefits asst. commonwealth’s attorney

The Middlesex County Board of Supervisors appears ready to fight a lawsuit rather than fund an assistant commonwealth’s attorney that would review and handle law enforcement’s body-worn camera recordings.

On Aug. 4 in a 3-2 vote, supervisors declined to fund an assistant commonwealth’s attorney at an entry level salary of $80,725, plus benefits. Voting against funding were supervisors Reggie Williams, Bill Harris and Don Harris. Supervisors Wayne Jessie and Randy Crittenden voted to fund the position.

Jessie made the motion to provide funding, which was defeated 3-2. “I don’t see belaboring it because the law is the law. We can drag it out all we want to, but the law is the law.”
