The Middlesex County Board of Supervisors voted 4-1 to purchase body-worn police cameras and the salary to hire a clerk in the Middlesex County Sheriff’s Office to monitor the cameras. The vote came at the supervisors Tuesday, Aug. 5, regular monthly meeting. The total expenditure approved was for $116,804.
Supervisors turned down a request from Middlesex County Commonwealth’s Attorney Mike Hurd for another $108,000 to hire a second assistant commonwealth’s attorney in his office to review the cameras and for the increased workload associated with the cameras.
Supervisors approved $44,404 to purchase 14 cameras with a five-year warranty and $72,400 for salary and benefits for the Middlesex County Sheriff’s Office to hire a clerk.
