Practice self-judgment, as opposed to judging others

Pastor Snow

by Pastor John Snow –

Judgment is real. You may hate it, you may love it, but it is real.

Judgment is like salt. We don’t require a lot of it, but it is a necessary and essential ingredient.

The thing about judgment is that we must know where to begin. Let me make it easy for all of us. We begin with ourselves.

Scripture tells us: “Judge not that you be judged … first take the log out of your own eye (Matthew 7); Why do you pass judgment on your brother … For we shall all stand before the judgment seat of God … So each of us shall give an account of himself to God (Romans 14); If we judge ourselves truly, we shall not be judged. But when we are judged by the Lord, we are disciplined that we may not be condemned with the world (1Corinthians 11).”

The first rule of judgment is that it begins at home, but knowing where to begin does not tell me how to begin. How shall I judge myself? What standard shall I use and how will I know if I am applying the standard well? Like judgment in general, the problem with self-judgment is that many will go easy on themselves and many will be much too hard on themselves. Generally human nature will lead me to give myself a pass, but not my neighbor.

Our Father in Heaven has not given us a task to perform without giving us the tools we need to perform it
