The Middlesex County Board of Supervisors (MCBS) voted unanimously on Tuesday, June 1, to relinquish the proposed U.S. Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) $1.25 million Vibrant Communities grant and the $480,000 in Industrial Revitalization grant funds back to the state.
About $1.3 million would have gone towards the construction of a brewpub/restaurant on the old Rappahannock Elementary School (RCE) site at Cooks Corner, in front of the Middlesex Pet Friends for Life Dog Park. The rest of the funding would have gone to workforce housing units behind the Cooks Corner Office Complex (CCOC) building. It will also impact funding for the historical trail project behind the CCOC building but there is $50,000 of local funds still available for it.
Due to COVID-19, the restaurant developers decided not to continue pursuit of the project…
