Middlesex County Sheriff Bushey to step down

Cites ‘current medical conditions,’ announces March 31 retirement

bushey-davidMiddlesex County Sheriff David P. Bushey has submitted his notice that he is retiring.

In a brief letter to Middlesex County Administrator Matt Walker dated Feb. 6, Sheriff Bushey wrote:

“Due to unforeseen circumstances beyond my control, I have decided to take an early retirement due to current medical conditions. Therefore, my official end date will be March 31, 2026. I have truly enjoyed working with you and your staff for the last 14 years.”

Sheriff Bushey became a Middlesex deputy in August 1994 and worked his way up to chief deputy for three years. In 2003 he started a scuba diving business, which he operated until he ran for sheriff in 2011. He first took office in January 2012 and was elected to four terms. His current term expires on Dec. 31, 2027.
