The Middlesex High School (MHS) varsity football team (1-0, 0-0) opened its regular season with a 13-0 victory over the Surry High School Cougars on Thursday, Aug. 28, at Surry in Dendron.

The game was 0-0 at halftime, but the Chargers were able to score twice in the second half as Bowen scored on the ground and the second touchdown came on a defensive touchdown by Griffin who picked up a Cougar fumble in the end zone.

The Chargers will play the Northumberland Indians (1-0, 0-0) in Heathsville on Friday, Sept. 5. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
