Philippi Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), 17276 General Puller Highway, Deltaville, invites you to join them for worship every Sunday at 10 a.m. Children’s Church, for ages nursery to 7, immediately follows the children’s sermon.
For October’s worship, Pastor Bill Palmer will focus on Scripture readings from the books of Exodus, Philippians, Matthew, Psalms, Thessalonians and Deuteronomy.
Holy Communion (the Lord’s Supper) is celebrated every Sunday as a central part of their worship. Communion is open to all who follow Jesus Christ, regardless of denomination or background. They welcome all to the table as Christ has welcomed us.
The service is followed by a buffet lunch in their fellowship hall. Visitors are most welcome to join.
Philippi’s Disciple Women meet at the church on the second Friday of each month at 10 a.m. Bible study is followed by discussions on how to best serve the community and beyond. October Bible study is: “Mary Magdalene – Clinging to Christ.”
Their children’s choir has started rehearsing with the largest enrollment ever!
Philippi will host a Trunk or Treat event on Saturday, Oct. 24, from 4-6 p.m. in the church parking lot. Rain or shine.

Everyone in Middlesex County is invited to Antioch Baptist Church’s “Solid Rock” 160th anniversary celebration, which includes a special 11 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 18, worship service. The speaker will be the Rev. Dr. Fred D. Holmes Jr.

Lebanon Baptist Church in Saluda will celebrate its homecoming and 135th church anniversary on Saturday, Oct. 3, at 2 p.m. Dr. Shelton Murphy will be the guest speaker. He is the pastor of Mount Gilead Missionary Baptist Church located in Norfolk.
His choir will provide the music.

Congregants at Lower United Methodist Church (LUMC) at 120 Lower Church Road, Hartfield, invite everyone to join them this Sunday at 10:30 a.m. for their traditional worship service in the LUMC historic sanctuary.
Adult Sunday school is offered Sunday at 9:30 a.m., in LUMC Fellowship Hall, preceded by Coffee Fellowship beginning at 9:15 a.m. The LUMC women’s choral ensemble, Wellspring, meets Monday at 6 p.m.; and at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, the LUMC handbell choir, Embellish, will practice. The community is invited to stop by LUMC Fellowship Hall Wednesdays from 7:30 to 9 a.m. for free coffeehouse drinks.

Additionally at LUMC, the Rev. Dr. Mary B. Ligon, or “Chaplain Mary,” is set to speak. She is the inaugural community chaplain for Bay Aging, an Urbanna-based agency on aging serving Virginia’s Middle Peninsula and Northern Neck. Her community-based chaplaincy program primarily serves residents, along with caregivers and professionals throughout the region.
She previously served as a palliative care chaplain at WellSpan York Hospital and as a tenured professor of gerontology at York College of Pennsylvania. She has a doctoral degree in health-related sciences and a master’s degree in gerontology from Virginia Commonwealth University, and her work focuses on aging, spirituality, and whole-person care across the lifespan.

Following a well-attended first gathering in September, Bay Aging’s Middlesex Memory Café will meet Thursday, Oct. 15, from 1:30 to 3 p.m. at Christ Church Parish, 56 Christchurch Lane, Christchurch. People living with memory loss, Alzheimer’s, or dementia are invited to attend with friends, family members and caregivers for conversation, refreshments, and community connection in a relaxed setting.

Mount Zion Baptist Church and Antioch Baptist Church will celebrate their pastor of 56 blessed years, the Rev. Dr. Fred D. Holmes Jr. The celebration will take place on Saturday, Nov. 21, at 2 p.m. at the Van Den Boogard Center located at 3510 King William Ave., West Point.
The tickets for the banquet are $25 for adults and $12.50 for children 12 and younger. The deadline to purchase tickets is Oct. 15.
