A Gloucester minor was seriously injured in a crash on U.S. Route 17 at Saluda on Tuesday afternoon, May 6, reported Sgt. J. Teagle of the Virginia State Police’s Gloucester office.
According to the police report, Virginia State Trooper M.S. Ward was dispatched to the single vehicle crash. Through his investigation, Trooper Ward determined the 2013 Chevrolet Sonic was traveling northbound on Route 17 when it ran off the right shoulder at Gloucester Road near Hardee’s restaurant. The vehicle struck a road sign, hit a ditch and overturned striking the trees in front of Hardee’s.
The driver of the vehicle was airlifted to VCU Medical Center in Richmond due to the injuries he sustained in the crash, despite being properly restrained. The male driver was identified as a juvenile from Gloucester. Police withheld his name because he is a minor. Speed appeared to be a factor in the crash and charges are currently pending, said Sgt. Teagle.
The Middlesex County Sheriff’s Office reported that while first responders were at the Saluda crash, another crash occurred in Topping at the intersection of Regent Road and Dirt Bridge Road. Details were not available.
