
Christchurch School (CCS) Head of School Billy Coyle announced this week that Rob Deane has been hired in the role of CCS Waterfront and Sailing Program director/senior head coach.
Deane is a graduate of Boston University (BU) in Boston, Mass. From 2008-2017 he was on the British American Cup Team for keelboat team racing. In 2018 he came in 14th in the J22 World Championship and in 2019 won the US Sailing Championship for the Mallory Trophy.
Deane served on the Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games, and was the technical sailing coach for Connecticut College and the U.S. Coast Guard Academy. From 1998-2000 he was director of intercollegiate sailing and head coach at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. From 2016-2020 Deane was executive director of the Baltimore County Sailing Center. In 2020 he founded The Chesapeake Experience — a high school program with 15 teams and 40 sailors, training them in the technical elements of fleet and team racing, and working closely with college coaches in the recruiting process.
Deane’s official start date is Monday, Nov. 27.
