Cooks Corner Crackdown

A Middlesex County sheriff’s deputy keeps watch for potential speeders this week while parked in the median of General Puller Highway (Route 33) at Cooks Corner. Responding to numerous complaints, the Middlesex County Sheriff’s Office is using radar to step up enforcing the 45 mph speed limit in commercial areas at Cooks Corner and Hartfield, said MCSO Maj. M.E. Sampson. Recently, a motorist ran through radar at 100 mph in the Cooks Corner area, resulting in a police chase that ended with a crash in Urbanna, said Maj. Sampson. There are a good number of pedestrians in these congested areas, he added. “For everybody’s safety, please slow down,” the lawman pleaded. (Photo by Tom Chillemi)
