Urbanna officials learn more about getting a DMV office in town hall

Part of the Urbanna Town Hall could be used for a DMV Select, Barry Browning, DMV Select director, told the town council at its Sept. 23 meeting. “We feel Urbanna is a perfect fit for us,” he said.

The town would need to hire at least two employees to handle the DMV business that includes motor vehicle and boat transactions such as registrations, titles and tags.

Currently, there are 55 DMV Selects across the state, said Browning. The closest ones are in West Point and Mathews. “We want to offer more outlets for citizens,” he added. Mathews County has a DMV Select in the treasurer’s office.

Customer service would be on an appointment basis, with the possibility of late hours one day a week.

The DMV will assist the town in promoting the Select office by building a website and making it part of the DMV website. “We give you everything that you need,” which includes free training…
