Mary Melville’s St. Clare Walker Middle School (SCW) seventh grade Life Science class learned first hand last week about aquatic life in local waters from Captain David Rowe aboard the bay deadrise boat, “Bay Quest.”

As part of the Urbanna Oyster Festival Marine Science Legacy Program, educational field trips are conducted annually a few weeks before the oyster festival for public and private school students. This year the festival is set for Nov. 6 and 7.

On Wednesday, Oct. 14, the “Bay Quest,” a 43-foot fiberglass deadrise boat built in 1986 by Deltaville boatbuilders John and Chip Collamore was moored at the dock at Urbanna Boatyard and Marina (“Urbby”) on Urbanna Creek, as oyster boats were arriving from across the region to participate in the opening day of the public oyster season on Oct. 15.
