Town council votes to terminate administrator

The Urbanna Town Council voted to “terminate the town administrator’s amended employment agreement without cause.” The formal action to dismiss Ted Costin took place during a brief special called meeting on Wednesday, May 20.

The vote was unanimous by the five council members who participated at the meeting. The previous week, Mayor Bill Goldsmith and Town Councilor Merri Hanson both resigned, apparently due to disagreeing with the majority’s preference to fire Costin.

Job review

Discussion on Costin, as well as the County Attorney Andrea Erard, took place during a one-hour and 45-minute closed meeting on May 14. The motion to enter the closed meeting stated it was to “discuss the performance reviews of the town administrator and town attorney.” …
