Teacher pay falling behind prompts $1,000 bonuses

The Middlesex County School Board (MCSB) voted unanimously in April, to give a $1,000 “retention” bonus to all Middlesex County Public Schools (MCPS) employees who are returning for the fiscal year 2026-2027 (FY 26-27) school year.

The approval came on the heels of the Middlesex County Board of Supervisors (MCBS) approving on Tuesday, May 5, a budget “supplement request” of $82,664 of state funds to provide $1,000 bonuses to Standard of Quality (SOQ) position employees in the MCPS system.

The bonus is in response to concerns by school administration and others that Middlesex teacher salaries are falling behind other school divisions in the region and the prospect of good teachers moving on…
