The St. Clare Walker (SCW) Middle School co-ed soccer team is off to a sizzling start, securing two impressive wins in back-to-back games last week and bringing its season record to a strong 3-0-1.

On Friday, Sept. 26, SCW played a tough game against New Kent Middle School and emerged victorious with a 3-1 final score. The offense was powered by Gideon Hanscom, who netted two goals, and AJ Billups, who contributed with one goal and one assist. Defensively, goalkeeper Nate Sellers had a standout performance, making seven saves in the game. The team’s strong defense was anchored by the excellent play of Talley Bray, Savvy Rose, Sawyer Laster, and Chase Oord.

The previous day, SCW secured a dominant 12-0 victory over Lancaster Middle School. The team showcased exceptional teamwork and skill, demonstrating their potential for a strong season. The offense was led by a powerful performance from Darinel Lopez, who netted four goals and added an assist.

Jerome Brown was also a key player, scoring three goals. Sawyer Laster contributed with two goals and two assists, while Avery Weston matched his effort with two goals and two assists of his own.

The scoring was rounded out by Chase Oord, who chipped in an assist. AJ Billups also contributed significantly, playing both striker and wing throughout the game. St. Clare Walker Assistant Coach Shawn Haskiell praised the team’s effort and collaboration, stating, “This win is a testament to their hard work.”

On the defensive end against Lancaster, the team was anchored by a stellar performance from goalkeeper Nate Sellers, who made six saves to secure the clean sheet. The impressive play of Jaxson Wilds as the holding defensive midfielder was also a key factor in the team’s solid defense.

Two sixth-graders, Jax Denkinger and Klevor Rose, have already secured starting spots on defense, demonstrating their maturity and skill on the field. They were joined by Talley Bray, who was described as “a force on defense,” and Savvy Rose and Collin Salmon, who showed their versatility by rotating through various positions.

Assistant Coach Dylan Janisko echoed this sentiment, adding, “It’s a fantastic start, but we know we have to keep working hard and staying focused.” The team’s performance across both games shows a promising season ahead for the Seahawk squad.
