The St. Clare Walker High School reunion and unveiling ceremony of a plaque to go on the side of the one-time school building is set for noon Saturday, Nov. 22, at 2911 General Puller Highway in Cooks Corner. The plaque will denote that the site has been placed on the Virginia Landmarks Register and National Register of Historic Places. Complimentary refreshments will follow the unveiling.

St. Clare Walker High School, now the Cooks Corner Office Complex, was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in March 2024. The Middlesex County Board of Supervisors recently allocated funds to place a plaque on the side of the building.

The school served the African-American community in Middlesex as the county’s only Black high school during the segregation era from 1939 to 1969. It was later used as the county’s integrated middle school. The area is now mostly used as office space for Middlesex County Public Schools and the Department of Social Services.
