New sculpture honors local legacy at Deltaville Maritime Museum

Deltaville Maritime Museum (DMM) and Holly Point Nature Park recently received a stunning new addition to its grounds — a graceful sculpture of cownose rays, donated by Ros and Kathryn Willis in memory of William Rosco and Ann Fraser Bowers. The piece, crafted by renowned artist David Turner, was officially accepted by Maritime Museum Director Bob LeBoeuf in a small but meaningful ceremony.

Cownose rays, native to the Chesapeake Bay, have long been emblematic of the region’s rich marine life. The sculpture is a tribute not only to these fascinating creatures but also to the enduring legacy of the Bowers family and their connection to the water and Stingray Point.

Turner, known for his intricate wildlife sculptures, expertly captured the elegance and fluid motion of the rays in his work, which now stands proudly at the museum.
