The Middlesex County School Board (MCBS) learned on Monday, Aug. 11, WHRO public media will be losing $2 million annually in funds with cuts coming from the federal government.
The Hampton Roads-based public broadcasting media organization partners with 21 school divisions in the region and Middlesex County Public Schools (MCPS) is one of those.
At the school board meeting last week, Bert Schmidt, president and chief executive officer of WHRO said his firm is “committed to providing high-quality educational products and services that enrich our community. We offer program and digital content to 21 owner-member school divisions and families in the region. Many of our resources are also available to teachers and students across the commonwealth.”
Schmidt said that the loss of $2 million will not impact services this year, but it is unclear what the future will bring. The company is currently not replacing those who retire and those who leave for other jobs.
