Ballot is set for Middlesex and Urbanna special elections

The ballot is set for two special elections being conducted in Middlesex County on Nov. 3, 2026. The deadline to file as a candidate was Aug. 14.

A special election for Middlesex sheriff will be conducted due to former Middlesex Sheriff David P. Bushey’s resignation on March 31 for health reasons.

Four candidates have qualified to run in the special election for Middlesex County Sheriff. The sheriff candidates to date include, in alphabetical order:

  • Christopher J. Easter, 47, of Hartfield
  • Thomas G. Justis, 41, of Hardyville
  • Bryan P. Longest, 43, of Locust Hill
  • Kristen L. Schomburg, 46, of Hartfield

The winner will serve through Dec. 31, 2027.

Urbanna

Another special election is to fill the unexpired term of  Robert E. “Robbie” Wilson III on the Urbanna Town Council. The term runs through Dec. 31, 2028. Two candidates are seeking Wilson’s vacant seat — R. Bruce Murray and  J. Dan Snead.  Wilson resigned his town council seat when council elected him mayor recently.

General election

Urbanna will conduct a “regular” General Election, and the special election. 

On the General Election ballot seeking one of three open seats on the Urbanna Town Council are:

  • Martha J. Lowe
  • Anthony C. Pearce
  • Lisa M. Powers
  • John William Ryland III
  • Jim B. Thrift

Terms are four years and begin Jan. 1, 2027. 

Wilson is the only candidate for mayor on the General Election ballot.
