The Middlesex High School (MHS) football team (1-2, 0-0) ran into an offensive buzzsaw Friday night, Sept. 12, as the Windsor Dukes flattened the Chargers defense and crushed MHS, 50-16, in a non-district game.

Middlesex was able to stop the Dukes in the first series of downs leading to a Charger 40-yard touchdown run by Jakub Bowen. Davonte Griffin rushed for the 2-point conversion and an 8-0 lead.

The Dukes came back on the next set of downs with a touchdown and a 2-point conversion to tie the game, 8-8. On the next set of Middlesex downs, Bowen fumbled on Windsors’ one-yard line, which led to a Duke touchdown and extra point kick, 14-8.

On the next set of MHS offensive downs, Middlesex quarterback Cash Steel threw an interception that led to a touchdown and extra point kick, 21-8. Windsor scored two more touchdowns in the first half ending the scoring at halftime, 36-8.

The Dukes scored 14 more points in the second half to get their 50 points.  Middlesex scored again with 6:15 left in the fourth quarter as Bowen scored on a rushing touchdown and converted the 2-point conversion from a pass from a quarterback steal.

The Dukes were paced by senior quarterback Jeremy King and monster running back Javion Collins, who ran through the Charger defense pretty much at will — registering first down after first down on the ground.

The Dukes compete in the Triple-Rivers Conference and Virginia High School league 2A, which is one division above Middlesex determined by school population.

The Chargers will host the Lancaster Red Devils on Friday, Sept. 19, at the Syd Thrift Athletic Complex. The Red Devils (1-2) lost to the West Point Pointers, 18-14, last week.
