The East River was the setting for another successful Wharf to Wharf (W2W) Swim at Williams Wharf in Mathews, as more than 60 swimmers gathered Saturday, Aug. 15, for the one-mile open water event.

Hosted by the Mathews Outdoor Club (MOC), the W2W attracted participants from across Virginia as well as North Carolina, Maryland and Pennsylvania. Swimmers of all ages and experience levels took part, contributing to the event’s relaxed, welcoming atmosphere.

“The age group swimmers of Middlesex County show remarkable speed and poise in open water swimming,” reported Race Director Carolyn Quinn. Middlesex County swimmers made up six of the 14 age group swimmers at the event. “It’s great seeing the kids comfortable in open water competition. Their coaches are to be commended.”
