Middlesex High School’s girls basketball team split a pair of games last week, defeating Northumberland, but losing to Essex.
The visiting Lady Chargers defeated the Lady Northumberland Indians 59-46 in an offensive battle on Dec. 12. The Lady Chargers led 31-23 at the end of the first half and outscored Northumberland 28-23 in the second half for the win.
For the Lady Chargers, Brooklyn Horace led with 18 points, six rebounds, six steals, three assists; Rylee Buck, 15 points, six assists, five rebounds, three steals; Alyssa Hooks, 10 points, 13 rebounds, one steal; Anaiya Billups, 6 points, two assists, one rebound; Amya Kidd, 4 points, two rebounds; Melody Jones, 3 points; Sophia Sandlin, 2 points, one assist, one steal; Allison Mendoza 1 point, one rebound; Alanna Billups, six rebounds; Payton Baker, four rebounds, two steals; and Grace Reza, three rebounds and three steals.
Essex 47, Middlesex 33
On Dec. 11, the Lady Chargers basketball team lost to the host Essex Lady Trojans 47-33.
The Lady Chargers led 10-8 after the first quarter, but were behind 22-15 at the half. Essex outscored the Chargers 25-18 in the second half.
Middlesex takes on Mathews in the Lady Chargers last game before the holiday break tonight, Thursday, Dec. 18, in the John S. Clements Memorial Gymnasium in Saluda. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. (Tip-off for the Middlesex junior varsity girls basketball team is set for 5:30 p.m.)
