
Reza makes Va. high school history as first female to run for TD
The Middlesex High School (MHS) varsity football team (3-5, 1-1) made history this week, while defeating Charles City High School (CCHS), 39-12. Charger girl Grace Reza became the first female in recorded Virginia High School League (VHSL) history to run in a touchdown in a varsity game. Just a freshman, Reza scored on a 4-yard run from scrimmage.
Chargers dominate
The Chargers dominated the Panthers scoring 22 points (three touchdowns) in the first half and holding CCHS to just 6 points. During the first period, Davonte Griffin scored on an 82-yard run and Jacob Hatton made good on the 2-point conversion.

Jakub Bowen scored a second touchdown on a 30-yard run with 10:56 minutes left in the second quarter. Dereon Cooke added to the halftime score with a 7-yard touchdown run. Griffin threw a pass to Bowen to make good on the 2-point conversion.
The Chargers scored two more touchdowns in the game as Reza scored in the third quarter and Cash Steel hit pay dirt on a 1-yard run. Hatton rushed for the 2-point conversion and kicked an extra point. Middlesex also scored 2 points on a safety after a blocked punt.
MHS dominated the ground game with a total of 343 yards. Griffin rushed for 207 yards; Cooke, 72; and Bowen, 61 yards.
Defense
On defense, Bowen was top tackler with nine tackles, five solos and four assists; Griffin, eight tackles, six solos, two assists; Cooke, six tackles, three solos, three assists; Travis Archer, five tackles, four solos, one assist; and Cash Steel and Maliki Reaves had four tackles each. Steel had three solos and one assist and Reaves two solos and two assists.
Coming up
The Chargers will host the West Point Pointers (3-4, 1-0) on Friday night at the Syd Thrift Athletic Complex in Saluda. MHS has played West Point once this year losing to the Pointers, 26-6. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
