Deltaville path plan advances; width reduced

Middlesex Supervisors were informed by the County Administrator that VDOT has approved a “sidewalk” narrow path in Deltaville instead of a wider multi-purpose path.

The project, costing an estimated $2.5 million, will be paid for with 80% ($2 million) coming from the Transportation Alternative Program (TAP) federal funds and 20% ($500,000) coming from Middlesex County taxpayers.

The costs of the sidewalk maintenance in the future will be covered by VDOT, as it is being built inside VDOT owned roadside easements.

Several Deltaville citizens complained to supervisors in July that the proposed 10-foot asphalt multi-purpose path would take too much of landowners’ yards, so supervisors in August asked VDOT to narrow the path to five feet and to make it out of concrete.
