Churches in Brief: April 2, 2026

Christ Church Parish (Episcopal) at 56 Christchurch Lane in Christchurch welcomes everyone to attend services at 8 and 10:30 a.m. each Sunday. There is a coffee hour after each service. A nursery is provided during the 10:30 a.m. service.

On the second Sunday of each month, children pre-kindergarten through grade five are welcome to attend a Sunday school class (“Godly Play”) during the 10:30 a.m. service. They then join their parents for worship in the Church.

Easter Week community services at Christ Church include:

  • Maundy Thursday, April 2 — 7 p.m.
  • Good Friday, April 3 — noon.
  • Easter vigil, April 5 — 6 a.m.
  • Easter service, April 5 – 10:30 a.m.

Easter treats will be given out after the Easter service and children are invited to an Easter egg hunt then.

All campers and community members are invited to attend the 9 a.m. Easter worship service at Bethpage Camp-Resort on Easter Sunday at 9 a.m. The service will be in the amphitheater. Sunday services will be continued until the end of September. Dress is casual.

This is the 45th year that Urbanna Baptist Church and Bethpage have co-hosted worship services on the grounds. This Sunday’s speaker is Pastor Wade Inge of Beulah Church, Shacklefords. Music will be provided by George Robinson and The Robins who are members of several Middlesex County churches.

Urbanna Baptist Church (UBC) invites you to attend the Maundy Thursday Service, 7 p.m. April 2. UBC is located at 121 Watling St., Urbanna.


All Saints Anglican Church in Saluda warmly welcomes everyone to celebrate all or part of this Holy Week.

Services this week include a Maundy Thursday service at 8:30 p.m. today, April 2. Their organist, Dr. Cheryl Davis, will be accompanied by Laurie Rowe on flute, Nina Busby on cello and Kevin Crowder on violin.

On Friday, April 3, there will be a Good Friday service at 1:30 p.m. with Dr. Davis, Nina Busby on cello and Laurie Rowe on flute. The Friday service focuses on the Last Words of Jesus Christ on the cross.

The 11:15 a.m. Easter Sunday service will celebrate a glorious morning and the Lord’s resurrection. Again assisting Dr. Davis with the flute will be Laurie Rowe. Following the Easter service, congregants and worshippers are invited to enjoy a wonderful Easter lunch in the parish hall.

Bishop Jeffrey Johnson will officiate all three services.

Upcoming events at Saluda’s Immanuel Baptist Church include:

  • Easter Sunday, April 5 – Service will be at 10 a.m. There will be no Sunday school.
  • Saturday, April 11, at 4 p.m. is the ordination service of Deacon-Elect William Taylor and the consecration of Deaconess-Elect Barbara Taylor.

Pastor Jerome C. Spann Sr. of Blakely Baptist Church, Blakely, Pa., will deliver the ordination sermon. Music will be by George Robinson and the Robins. Light refreshments will be served following the service.

  • Sunday, April 19, Pastor John C. Wright Jr. and First Lady Yinoris Wright will celebrate their eighth anniversary. The morning service will be at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Archie Comfort Jr., pastor of New Faith Fellowship, Richmond. Lunch will be served following the morning service. The 3 p.m. service will include the Rev. Darnell Comfort, pastor of Branch Fork Baptist Church, Spotsylvania. Pastor Comfort will be accompanied by his choir, ushers and congregation.

Zion Hill Baptist Church, 10256 Indian Road, Gloucester, will have in-person worship service on Sunday, April 5, at 11 a.m. Pastor Eugene Comithier II will preach and the Senior  Choir will sing.

In-person Sunday school will be offered at 9:45 a.m.

Hermitage Baptist Church’s Easter egg hunt is set for 2-4 p.m. Saturday, April 4, at 94 Wares Bridge Road in Church View. It will be super fun and features a “photo op” with a “special guest.” Hermitage will also offer a combination Easter sunrise service and breakfast at 6:30 a.m. Sunday, April 5. Also on Easter, there will be Sunday school at 10 a.m. and a worship service at 11 a.m.

Lower United Methodist Church (LUMC), 120 Lower Church Road, Hartfield, recently announced its upcoming Holy Week activities.

These include:

  • 9 a.m. daily during Holy Week — Prayer service.
  • 6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 2 — Maundy Thursday Communion service.
  • 5 p.m. Friday, April 3 — Good Friday re-enactment of the crucifixion in the LUMC cross/prayer garden.
  • 10 a.m. Saturday, April 4 — Community Easter egg hunt on LUMC grounds.
  • 10:30 a.m. Sunday, April 5 — Easter church service with special music.

Christ Church Parish (Episcopal) at 56 Christchurch Lane in Christchurch invites the community to come together on Friday, April 10, to celebrate spring at the “Swing into Spring” dinner/dance. Join them in the fellowship hall (6 to 10 p.m.) for a wonderful dinner, beverages, dancing, and socializing with old and new friends. Reservations are required before April 6. The Northern Neck Chapter 1823 of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) Association will meet  on Tuesday, April 7, at 1 p.m. at Henderson United Methodist Church, 72 Henderson Drive, Callao. The speaker is Master Gardener Deborah Brooks. Current, former and retired federal employees, spouses, and survivor annuitants are invited. The chapter board will meet at noon.
