Charles Edward Carter

Charles Edward Carter, 67, went home to be with our Lord and Savior on Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2021, his family by his side.

He was born on Sept. 5, 1954 in Bethesda, Md. He is the son of the late Allen E. Carter and M. Genelle Carter. He grew up in Hampton, and later moved to Gloucester County, where he met and married his wife of 44 years, Nita Rigau Carter.

His survivors include his wife, Nita Carter; and three children, daughter Michelle G. Carter and her life partner George Joyner of Virginia Beach, daughter Genelle Olivieri and her husband Felipe Olivieri of Georgia, and son John A. Carter of Colorado; four grandchildren, Corey A. Cox, USCG PO3, and wife Kenzie, Dante Olivieri, Adriana Olivieri and Braydyn Boone; his brother, Al Carter of Gloucester; sisters, Joyce Carter of Virginia Beach and Carol Conaway of Georgia and their families. He also leaves behind his very dear friends, Sheila Hagerty and Susan Blake of Chesapeake.

He was the owner of Charlie Carter Cleans Chimneys for the past 35 years.

A celebration of life is planned for 1-4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 30 at Brent and Becky’s Bulbs, 7900 Daffodil Lane, Gloucester.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like any expression of sympathy to be sent to EDMARC, Hospice for Children, Portsmouth, edmarc.org.
