The Middlesex Volunteer (Urbanna) Fire Department (MVFD) Auxiliary was organized on April 17, 1946 to support the firefighters and to raise funds to keep the fire department running.
The group organizes the food and drink at the MVFD station (“the Urbanna firehouse”) for the annual Police Unity Tour that stops in Urbanna to honor the late Middlesex County Chief Deputy Robert Talmadge Hicks.
As a fundraiser, the group sponsors live bluegrass concerts at the Urbanna firehouse from April to October. Although admission is free, donations go to the auxiliary. The group presented an annual check to the fire department last week.
The group also assists the fire department with its annual oyster roast and steamed crab dinners.
The auxiliary needs support and is seeking new members. Anyone interested can contact Jeannine Rowe at 804-758-5332 or June Williams at 804-758-2640 or email her at jkwjaw@verizon.net…
