On Sunday, May 24, Zoar Baptist Church will kick off its 54th consecutive summer of Beach Worship at Stingray Point. The first worship service on the beach at Stingray Point was conducted on June 18, 1972, under the leadership of the then-pastor, the Rev. Charles M. Moody.
Beach Worship on the Rappahannock is scheduled every Sunday between Memorial Day and Labor Day at 8:30 a.m. Worshippers are encouraged to dress casually and bring a chair to sit under the pines and join others in prayer, singing and listening to The Word. There is a pavilion on the property specifically designated for children from pre-K through grade five to participate in “Children’s Church” while adults worship nearby. Leashed fur babies are welcome too.
The beach property is located at the end of Speck Avenue (Route 688) and is easily accessible to visitors at local marinas and campgrounds. In inclement weather, the services are conducted at Zoar Baptist Church on General Puller Highway in Deltaville.
