Urbanna ‘special election’ receives judge’s approval

Will be part of Nov. 3 voting

On July 1, Middlesex County Circuit Court Judge Jeffrey W. Shaw approved a petition ordering a “special election” in Urbanna to fill the unexpired term of former town council member Robert E. “Robbie” Wilson III.

Wilson resigned from council on June 11 and then was elected mayor by the town council following the resignation of former mayor Bill Goldsmith on May 15.

The Urbanna special election winner would serve Wilson’s term on town council and take office as soon as election officials certify the results. He or she will serve through Dec. 31, 2028.

The deadline to file as a candidate for the Urbanna special election is Aug. 14 at 5 p.m. Urbanna candidates do not have to file petitions to run for office.
