Tax hike equates to six cents per $100 assessment

Plan: All county employees would receive 7% pay boost

The Middlesex County Board of Supervisors (MCBS) voted on Tuesday, April 5, to advertise a $30,303,977 budget that will lower the real estate tax rate to 61 cents on $100 worth of real estate value. Taxpayers, however, will most likely not get a reduction in their real estate tax bills.

The new rate is tied to the new county reassessment that jumped real estate values up by about 11%. The one-cent reduction in the rate actually equates to a six-cent increase on the rate. This will amount to $1,870,240 in new revenues.

The budget proposal also shows personal property taxes increasing by $835,764, a 19% increase…
