Supervisors OK $35,000 bill for legal services

The Middlesex County Board of Supervisors approved a $35,000 expenditure to pay for legal services to the county’s bond counsel, Sands Anderson, for the law firm’s work in negotiating a contract for the Middlesex County Economic Development Authority (EDA) towards the purchase of waterfront property on Broad Creek in Deltaville.

County Attorney Heather Lewis said at the Feb. 3 regular monthly supervisors meeting that staff recommended paying the attorney’s fee because it was “fair to our bond counsel” because of the “complexity” and “nuance” of the negotiations surrounding the deal.

Supervisors approved a $1 million loan to the EDA in October 2025 to purchase 21 acres, part of Norview Marina on Broad Creek in Deltaville, to develop a public boat ramp, expand water access and support the marine trade…
