Pickleball tournament featured fun galore

The Deltaville Community Association (DCA) pickleball courts were in full swing on Saturday, Aug. 16. A group of pickleball players invaded the DCA courts in town for a pickleball tournament. There were 16 teams and 32 individual people playing.

This was a fundraiser for recent maintenance of the DCA courts. There were players from Deltaville, Mathews, Gloucester, Wake and Hartfield. 

“It was a wonderful morning of pickleball,” said DCA Board Member Gail Butler, who helped organize the event. “Thanks to Sandy Bottom restaurant for gift certificates for the winners, Carolos Morales for the donation of pickleball towels, Hal and Sue Tench for working out the draw sheet, Megan and Sarah for some wonderful bagels and other snacks, and Bev Butler and Ron Deck for keeping all the players in line and getting them on the correct courts. That was a big job! Thanks to all the players that came to play.”

Sarah Walsh and Ansgar Larson captured first place. Jay Honse and Stephanie McMurtrie won second place.

A most important thanks was extended to the Deltaville Community Association for putting in the pickleball courts and maintaining them. “We are a very lucky community to have a nice facility with the courts, baseball park, swimming pool, playground and the basketball court,” Butler said.
