MHS also fielding a junior varsity squad this year

The Middlesex High School (MHS) varsity and junior varsity football teams scrimmaged with four teams on Friday, Aug. 15, getting ready for the upcoming 2025 regular football season.

The Chargers first round of scrimmage was with Central Virginia Disciples who are players from homeschool/private schools in the Richmond area.

MHS faired pretty well as the Charger rushing offense was able to move the ball led by returnee Jakub Bowen. No scores were kept and four teams shared half of MHS’s Bristow-Boxley Field to run its offense and defense.

Middlesex will conduct a second scrimmage this Friday, Aug. 22 at MHS in Saluda starting at 4 p.m. The Chargers regular gridiron season will open on Thursday, Aug. 28, at 7 p.m. in away action against the Surry High School Panthers.

Junior varsity returns

The Chargers will field an MHS junior varsity team this year. The JV Chargers were unable to get enough players last year to make up a team.

The JV squad also participated in the scrimmage on Friday and will open its season on Sept. 9 at home against the Northumberland Indians. The Middlesex junior varsity squad has six games on its schedule with four played at home.
