Patricia Smith McNamee, 86, with her family by her side, was called to be with the Lord and Savior following a prolonged illness on Friday, June 27, 2025.
She leaves behind her husband and best friend of more than 66 years, Don; her son, Kevin; her daughter, Lori-Don; three grandchildren, Lauren (Mike), Kendall (Patrick), and Kyle (Macy); as well as six great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; cousins; her sister, Helen (Arzie); her brother-in-law, Alan (Diane); and her Aunt Mary.
Preceding her in death are her parents, Earl and Edith Smith; her daughter-in-law, Dianne; her son-in-law, Nathan; and niece, Theresa.
Pat lived a long, beautiful and full life. She embraced each obstacle, even this last illness, with her everready smile and good grace.
Like many in her family, she never met a stranger and welcomed all to her table. She enjoyed cooking and feeding everyone and could provide a meal in an instant regardless of the location. She once fixed a gourmet dinner while overlooking the Grand Canyon. Her annual holiday brunches were legendary, and attendees included relatives, church family members, neighbors and friends.
Throughout her life she believed in giving back to her community and her many activities included serving as an officer of the Junior Women’s Club, chairing the National Tobacco Festival Grand Ball, leading the Parent Teacher Organization, overseeing Wednesday night church dinners and special events, providing a safe, nurturing space for at-risk youth and beautifying her local area through the Gloucester Garden Club alongside her Aunt Betty. She also found time, post-retirement, to shepherd school groups and tourists through the restored area of Williamsburg, Mount Vernon, and the Nation’s Capital culminating in tour activities for the 300th anniversary of Jamestown.
Her smile and cheerful outlook, tolerance of opposing views, and her never-ending basket of rolls will be missed by all.
The family thanks her caregiver, Gina, the members of Urbanna Baptist Church for their regular visits and meals, the Middlesex County Volunteer Rescue Squad in Deltaville and ESS crew, and the hospice team for their love and care of Pat and her entire family. On Saturday, July 19, a 10 a.m. visitation and 11 a.m. service at Urbanna Baptist Church are planned.
