Oyster gardening presentation offered at Saturday’s ‘Taste of Middlesex’

Seaglass Wines representative Sam Bohnstedt provides a free wine tasting of its red and white wines at the Taste of Middlesex in 2022. Seaglass Wines, TOGA’s largest corporate sponsor, will repeat this popular offering again this year. (Contributed)

The Tidewater Oyster Gardeners Association (TOGA) will have an informational display and an indoor 75-minute Oysters 101 training at the Deltaville Maritime Museum during the museum’s Taste of Middlesex set for Saturday, Oct. 21. Spat will be sold at the event and Seaglass Wines will have a free wine tasting at the TOGA tent. The museum is located at 287 Jackson Creek Road, Deltaville.

Raising oysters is easy and only requires as much time and energy as you are willing to put in. You can start raising several hundred oysters to eat or just to help clean the bay for as little as $50!

TOGA’s 75-minute Oysters 101 course will be presented inside the museum building starting at 1 p.m. It’s a great way to learn the steps in establishing your oyster garden. So book your spot early by emailing Carl Zulick at Carlz@Togaboard.org. The course is free.
