The Middlesex Family YMCA recently made a significant contribution to literacy in the community by donating 1,440 books to students at Middlesex Elementary School. This initiative, generously funded by the River Counties Community Foundation, aims to foster a love of reading and support ongoing literacy development among young learners.
As part of the program, each student was invited to select two to three books appropriate for his or her grade level to take home. By providing access to quality reading materials during the winter holiday break, the YMCA is helping ensure that children can continue to build their reading skills outside the classroom.
The Book Fair event was a collaborative celebration, with Sarah Kirby Rae, center executive director, and Chloe Smith, childcare director, representing the YMCA. Their presence underscored the strong partnership between the YMCA and the school, as they helped deliver the books and shared in the excitement with students.
This effort highlights the positive impact that community organizations and local foundations can have when working together to support education. Through initiatives like this, the Middlesex Family YMCA continues to inspire a lifelong love of reading and learning among children in the region.
