MHS grapplers finish season at postponed state tournament

Middlesex High School’s (MHS) wrestling team had no one to place in the state Class 1 wrestling tournament in Bristol this past weekend — the Chargers finished 27th as a team, tied with Northumberland High School.

The Chargers had three wrestlers compete in the meet as Joseph Brandon, Zach Deagle and Andrew Harrow competed in their weight classes at the meet.

Grundy High School won the meet with 278 points; second, Rural Retreat, 192; third, Grayson County, 171.5; fourth, Bath County, 88; fifth, Holston, 85.5; sixth, Galax, 69.0; seventh, Giles, 68; eighth, Parry McCluer, 64.5; ninth, Mathews, 63; 10th, George Wythe, 57.5; 11th, Eastside, 57; 12th, Fort Chiswell, 57; 13th, Westmoreland, 55.5; 14th, Castlewood, 49.5; 15th, Northampton, 40.5; 16th, Northwood, 40; 17th, Buffalo Gap, 35; 18th, Chilhowie, 33; 19th, Honaker 29.5; 20th, Rappahannock, 22.5; 21st, Essex, 16.5; 22nd, Cumberland, 13; 23rd, Lancaster, 10; 24th, King and Queen Central, 9; 25th, John I. Burton, 7; 26th, Franklin, 6; and 27th, MHS, 0 and Northumberland, 0.
