“Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound, that saved a wretch like me.” That opening line from one of the most famous hymns in the world was published in 1779 by the minister John Newton. He began ministering at the age of 39 years old and preached the gospel for more than 40 years.

But there is a story behind the song.

John Newton learned from his mother about God as a young child. She died when he was a boy and he went to sea to work with his father as a pre-teen. He rejected what his mother taught him. He was a reckless….
