In 1946, Norton Hurd and his wife Alvine started Hurd’s Hardware in Deltaville. They lived overtop of the original store that would be removed when the current store was built, explained their son Jack, 72, who now manages the store.
On Saturday, Sept. 5, Hurd’s celebrated 80 years in business and conducted another “fun-d raiser.” This one was for the Lower Middlesex Volunteer Fire Department and it was complete with a dunking booth, food for sale, and store discounts. About $1,700 was raised. Hurd’s held similar events on Memorial Day and July Fourth to raise money for the Deltaville Community Association (DCA) and the Middlesex Volunteer Rescue Squad.
