Hummel Field experienced a huge increase in total economic output between 2016 and 2024, according to Stephen Smiley, a senior planner with the Virginia Department of Aviation (VDOA) and program manager for the economic impact study of Virginia airports.
“You have the benefit of having the highest increase in the entire Commonwealth of Virginia in terms of total output from 2016 to 2024,” Smiley told the Middlesex County Board of Supervisors at its March 3 regular monthly meeting. “The total output of the airport increased over 723%.”
