Dubai resident visits with Urbanna’s Andersons

Dubai is home to Retha McFarlane, who recently visited friends in Urbanna, Amy and Andy Anderson, owners of Urbby marina. They met when the Andersons lived in Dubai, where Andy was working for DuPont.

She said, “Dubai is difficult to compare to anywhere else in the world, due to its rapid development and scale.

“Located on the coast of the Arabian Gulf, it has only two seasons — extremely hot summers when temperatures can reach 122°F, a level of heat that is hard to fully describe. Winters are mild and similar to spring in Virginia.

“Dubai is defined by its skyline, filled with high-rise buildings and modern architecture. Much of Dubai feels newly built, which can give it a somewhat artificial appearance, enhanced by its cleanliness and sense of luxury. Gold features prominently…”
