Doris Elaine Walton Roane, 95, passed away on Friday, Sept. 24, 2021.
Doris was a lifelong church and Sunday school attendee at Poroporone Baptist Church in Shackelfords. She loved RV camping and travel, gardening, preserving food, baking, cats and socializing with close friends.
Doris worked for many years in the West Point area, using her skill with figures with various companies. She was first employed at Whaley Jewelers; then moved to York supply Company; and finally, was employed as a statistician with Chesapeake Corporation.
Doris was married to her husband, Bernard O. Roane, for 61 years. On their 50th wedding anniversary, Doris and Bernard celebrated a very special renewal of their wedding vows.
In addition to Bernard, Doris was predeceased by a son, Vernon W. Roane. Doris is survived by her son, C. Dean Roane; daughter-in-law, Linda C. Roane; grandson, Travis Lee Roane; nieces, Linda Walton Alley and Sheryl Walton; and grand-niece, Katie Alley Norwood.
A funeral service is planned for 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 3 in Poroporone Baptist Church, 30071 The Trail, Shacklefords. Interment will be in the church cemetery. The family kindly requests that those in attendance adhere to COVID-19 protocols of masking and social distancing. Donations in Doris’ memory can be made to King and Queen County Emergency Services.
