A pursuit by authorities that started in White Stone in Lancaster County led to the suspect’s car crashing near Topping in Middlesex County and a search for the suspect who fled, reported Maj. M.E. Sampson of the Middlesex County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO).
According to the MCSO, on Aug. 2 at 9:54 p.m. deputies responded to a call from the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office that a four-door tan Cadillac was heading south on Route 3 and the Norris Bridge towards Middlesex from Lancaster. The driver had been clocked on radar in Lancaster driving over the speed limit.
Once in Middlesex, the driver turned left on Dirt Bridge Road in Topping, followed by deputies.
At 9:57 p.m. the suspect vehicle crashed into a tree at the end of Dirt Bridge Road at the intersection with Regent Road.
Middlesex deputies advised that the male driver, wearing all black, exited the Cadillac and ran off. A foot pursuit followed.
The Cadillac’s passenger was placed in custody at the crash scene.
Deputies searched open fields, abandoned buildings in the area, and checked houses as well as garages. All were secured and the suspect was not found.
Arrest
In the early morning hours of the next day (Aug. 3) Middlesex deputies located and detained a subject matching the description in the area of the Deltaville 7-Eleven. A Lancaster deputy arrived on scene, identified the subject, and took him into custody.
The subject was identified by the Lancaster Sheriff’s Office as Keylon Monquizz Pruden, 27, of Newport News, according to Maj. Sampson, who added there are warrants for Pruden in Marietta, Ga., but it appears the alleged offenses do not warrant extradition back to Georgia.
Charges
Pruden is charged in Lancaster General District Court with the felony of eluding, which is disregarding a signal by law enforcement officer to stop.
He also faces several misdemeanors including reckless driving by driving a motor vehicle on the highway at a speed of 20 miles per hour or more in excess of the applicable maximum speed limit; driving while his driver’s license is suspended or revoked; operating an uninsured motor vehicle; operating an unregistered motor vehicle; drinking while operating a motor vehicle; improper passing; and hit and run of unattended property.
Pruden was being held in the Lancaster County Detention Center as of Monday. A court hearing is set for Sept. 17.
